🇳🇵 Entering Nepal: Visa Information & Application Guide

 

1. Visa on Arrival (VoA) – For Most Nationalities

Most travelers can get a tourist visa upon arrival at:

  • Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu)

  • Or designated land entry points

✅ Visa Fees (in USD):

  • 15 days – $30

  • 30 days – $50

  • 90 days – $125

🎫 Gratis Visa (Free of Charge) Is Available For:

  • Children under 10 years

  • SAARC nationals (except Afghanistan) — up to 30 days per visa year

  • Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) cardholders

  • Chinese nationals

📌 Required Documents:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months

  • Completed visa application form (online or at airport)

  • Passport-size photograph

  • Visa fee in cash (USD)

💡 Note: Credit cards are not accepted for VoA payments.

2. Who Must Apply for a Visa Before Arrival?

Citizens of the following countries must obtain a visa in advance from a Nepalese diplomatic mission:

  • Afghanistan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Palestine, Somalia, Swaziland, Syria, Zimbabwe

  • Also: Travelers using refugee travel documents

3. Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) – Optional Pre-Arrival

You can pre-apply for a visa through the Nepalese Embassy (e.g., in Ottawa), especially if you prefer avoiding queues.

📑 Documents Required for ETA:

  • Completed online visa application form

  • Original passport (valid at least 6 months)

  • Visa fee:

    • 15 days – CAD 45

    • 30 days – CAD 70

    • 90 days – CAD 180

  • Prepaid, self-addressed return envelope with tracking

✅ ETA is valid for 6 months from date of issue. Present it upon arrival to receive your actual visa.

4. Land Entry Points

Nepal shares borders with India and China, and you can enter by road at these points:

🚐 From India:

  • Kakarbhitta – Eastern Nepal

  • Birgunj – Central Nepal

  • Belahiya (Bhairahawa)

  • Nepalgunj

  • Dhangadhi

  • Mahendranagar

🚐 From China (Tibet):

  • Kodari

  • Kerung (Gyirong)

✅ Visa on Arrival is available at all of these land entry points.
